On 16 October 2026 the government announced that mandatory halal for imported food, beverages and slaughter products moves to 18 October 2028, and for cosmetics, health supplements and herbal medicines to 17 October 2028. The amending regulation is not yet signed.

Indonesia imports virtually all the cotton it spins. Domestic textile demand remains weak, and USDA forecasts cotton imports declining in both 2025/26 and 2026/27. It is a buyer's market: mills are open to new suppliers on price. Since 30 October 2025 Indonesia has charged a safeguard duty on imported cotton yarn, IDR 7,388/kg from 30 October 2026, except on yarn from countries on the regulation's exemption list.
