Barite (drilling grade)
Drilling-grade barite from Pakistan, mined mainly around Khuzdar in Balochistan and in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, for the drilling-fluid companies serving Indonesia's oil and gas wells. Indonesia reports no barite mining of its own and imported about 83,000 tonnes in 2025, mostly from Thailand and China.

Tariff position
Preference under the Indonesia–Pakistan Preferential Trade Agreement applies to a listed set of tariff lines, not to whole HS chapters. Whether this product qualifies depends on your exact 8-digit national line and on a valid Certificate of Origin.
We do not publish a rate here, because a rate without your line number and its date is not usable. What to check, and where.
Certifications required
| Certificate | Issued by | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Export permission | Government of Pakistan | None needed: barytes is on neither the banned nor the conditional list of Pakistan's Export Policy Order. |
| Import approval (PI) and surveyor report (LS) | Indonesia's Ministry of Trade | Not required: barite is on none of the 2025 import-restriction lists, so the importer needs only an NIB acting as API-U or API-P. |
| Laboratory test report | Independent laboratory | For each lot: specific gravity, soluble hardness and particle size, tested against API 13A. |
| SNI certificate | LEMIGAS, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources | Not a legal requirement we can find; a buyer or tender may ask for it. |
| Certificate of Origin | Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) | For the buyer or the bank if they ask. We have not found barite among Indonesia's IP-PTA concessions. |
Price logic
We do not publish prices. Here is what moves the number, and when.
- Grade sets the price band: ground 4.20 powder sells above 4.10, and lumps sit below both.
- Freight is a large share of a low-value bulk cargo. Most of Indonesia's barite comes a short sea route from Thailand and China, so Pakistani barite has to win on delivered price per tonne of certified grade.
- Volume follows drilling: more wells, and deeper ones, use more barite.
- We have not found an IP-PTA preference for barite, so it pays Indonesia's standard duty. Compare that with what your current supplier pays.
